Listening to Your Body: A Simple Way to Regulate Stress and Restore Energy

Weekly Dose of Work Recovery Vol. 3.12.25

What if I told you that your body is having a conversation with you, right now?

The problem? Most of us aren’t listening.

We push through exhaustion. We override gut instincts. We shut down our intuition. We tell ourselves, “I just need to get through this week.” And then another. And another. Until “another” becomes a decade (or more) of abandoning our body's wisdom.

But here’s the truth: ignoring these signals has consequences. Burnout isn’t just about working too much. It’s about a long-term pattern of not honoring what your nervous system is telling you.

This week, I invite you to reconnect with yourself in a simple but powerful way.

Body Talk: A 60-Second Exercise to Check In

  1. Pause & Breathe – Close your eyes and take three slow breaths.

  2. Scan for Signals – Where do you feel tension? A tight jaw? Heavy chest? Racing mind?

  3. Name the Feeling – Does it feel like stress? Overwhelm? Resistance?

  4. Ask What You Need – What’s one small shift you can make today to honor your body’s message? More rest? A boundary? A moment to reset?

The body doesn’t lie. And it will keep speaking - louder and louder - until you listen.

The Power of Analog Wellness

You may have seen that "Analog Wellness" is a rising trend in 2025. This is about choosing presence over digital distractions - things like:

✔️ Tech-free time in the morning (no scrolling in bed)
✔️ In-person connection over constant messaging
✔️ Writing on paper instead of digital notes

✔️ Prioritize time in nature, undistracted v. listening on a device

Small changes can have a huge impact on your nervous system and overall energy levels.

This week, I challenge you to listen more than you push through. Take a moment. Feel what’s real. Your body already has the answers.

You just have to hear them.

This Week's Did You Know?

What Is Interoceptive Awareness…

Recent studies have highlighted the profound benefits of interoceptive awareness, the ability to sense internal bodily signals, on overall wellbeing. Research indicates that individuals attuned to their body's internal cues experience enhanced emotional regulation and resilience. Mindfulness practices that focus on internal sensations have been shown to produce changes in the brain. Listening to your body's signals is crucial on the pathway to better wellbeing.
